The AQI Warriors are not a club one joins. They are enlisted automatically, by residence, into a daily campaign against an atmosphere that other cities would treat as an emergency and this city treats as a Tuesday.
They rise into the haze, walk the children to the gate, and join the marathon on the highway without protest. They check the index as others check the weather, register the number, and proceed regardless, because the office does not close and the day does not wait.
Their equipment is modest: a mask of varying conviction, a purifier honoured as family, and a steadiness of spirit that the institution regards as the city’s truest natural resource. They do not seek recognition. They simply continue.
The institution inducted the AQI Warriors as a standing tribute to ordinary endurance — the quiet, uncelebrated heroism of breathing on, day after day, in a city that asks it of them without apology.
